This 92-year old is faster than you
Fun Fact: She's older than ~125 countries. Also check out: our latest extreme sport in the desert, a venue from the 1800s, and a guy who hasn't cut his hair in ~400 days due to his team's poor performance.

Pre-match briefing
Welcome back to The Gameplan! The last 2 weeks have been really exciting in the world of sports, with huge headlines coming from all over the place. I’d like to say things are heating up in sports, but the weather tells a different story… Winter sports are back, with events from the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup and Cross-Country World Cup coming up really soon.
However, the most important news I can bring to you is about the guy who hasn’t gotten a haircut in over 393 days (and counting) because his team hasn’t won 5 games in a row! With the important stuff out of the way, let’s dive into Edition 48 at The Gameplan
Scout’s Overview
📡 🚨 Weekly Sports Radar: Sandboarding

Sandboarding is an extreme sport, similar to snowboarding, that involves riding down a sand dune while standing on a board, with both feet strapped in. What’s crazy is sandboarding can also be practised sitting down or lying on the belly or the back. It was a very niche activity in the 20th Century, but it’s recently exploded, with many dedicated hubs like Peru (Huacachina) and Namibia (Swakopmund).
Last time we gave you Volcano Boarding, this week we brought Sandboarding. Anything but normal snowboarding.
🏋 Athlete of the week: Emma Mazzenga

Emma Mazzenga is a 92-year-old (Yes, 92!) sprinter from Italy. Even aside from the fact that she’s breaking world records at 92, her story is really interesting:
She was a science teacher, and only started running after the age of 50. Her first competition was at the age of 70, and ever since she’s broken more than 25 national and world records in sprinting for her age category.
Fun Fact: Besides the records, she has 100+ Italian titles, 20+ European titles, and 10+ world titles in various age categories. Truly inspiring.
🏟️ Venue of the week: Royal Albert Hall

Following up on our news that Sumo has hit London, our venue of the week is Royal Albert Hall, a concert hall that doubles as a sports venue on occasion. This picture of the hall being repurposed for Sumo looks absolutely stunning.
Fun Fact: The Royal Albert Hall was built in 1871, which is crazy considering it’s still in use to this day.
🧤 Fit Check: Toronto Blue Jays City Connect

Despite the unfortunate result last weekend, we’ve got to give a shoutout to the Jays for an incredible season, making it to the World Series after 32 years! Just like their run, this uniform is nearly perfect. The jersey features the iconic Toronto skyline, and the combination of red & blue has never looked better.

🗞️ In case you were injured:
The LA Dodgers pulled off an insane comeback to win their second straight World Series, in a showdown many are calling one of the greatest matches in history
Harrie Lavreysen made history by becoming the first cyclist to win 4 gold medals in one tournament in 4 separate events! (Team sprint, Keirin, 1km time trial, and sprint)
Did y’all know about this?! The 2025 Deaflympics are about to start, with around 20 countries competing across 20 sports. Not only is this really cool to learn about, it’s also insane that it’s been going on for 100 years!
🎯 In overtime:
A small Swedish football club that plays in a village of just 1,500 people has completed a shock and won the highest tier of Swedish football, above teams with massive budgets. This means that this small team will be competing in the highest tier of European football next season.
Imagine trying to sleep when hundreds of fans are chanting right outside your window
📊 Analyst’s Corner: Sports Tourism
According to a 2025 survey of sports tourists worldwide, the average total spend on a sports trip exceeded $1,500. Sports fans spent an average of over $300 on event tickets, as well as almost $500 on accommodation (in USD).
Specifically in Asia, the Golf tourism market is projected to generate $9 billion by 2030, according to figures from US analysts Grand View Research.
