Welcome to Shark Cage Diving
Your introduction to Shark Cage Diving, + a sport where you can jump off anything tall and survive, two MORE world records, and the athlete who's earning $1.2 million 20 years after retirement.

Pre-match briefing
Welcome back! I’ll start by saying tennis is slowly growing on me. I’m only a few more editions away from changing The Gameplan to Weekly Tennis Roundup. Anyways, let’s talk about the REAL sports:
This week saw the annual Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest, with the winner eating more than 70 hot dogs in just 10 minutes! There’s a reason why this is his 17th title. If that wasn’t enough, there was an afterparty on the same day, hosting a Guinness Chugging Contest.
10/10 usage of free will, no notes. Let’s dive into Week 34 of The Gameplan.
Scout’s Overview
📡 🚨 Weekly Sports Radar: BASE Jumping

BASE jumping is an extreme sport where participants leap from fixed objects:
Buildings
Antennae
Spans (bridges)
Earth (cliffs)
Using parachutes to break their fall, it's one of the most dangerous sports in the world.
While parachuting from cliffs dates back to the 1970s, the term "BASE" was coined in 1980 by filmmaker Carl Boenish, who also documented many early jumps.
🏋 Athlete(s) of the week: Kipyegon and Chebet

Faith Kipyegon and Beatrice Chebet are Kenyan athletes who’ve just set two insane world records.
Faith Kipyegon broke her own women’s 1500m world record with a stunning 3:48.68, bouncing back after missing the 4-minute mile barrier last month.
Beatrice Chebet became the first woman to ever run under 14 minutes in the 5000m, clocking 13:58.06 and smashing the previous record. She now holds both the 5000m and 10,000m world records, plus Olympic titles.
🏟️ Venue of the week: Shark Alley

Shark Alley is a narrow channel between Dyer Island and Geyser Rock in South Africa, famous for its dense population of great white sharks. This is home to the rising extreme sport of Shark Cage Diving.
🧤 Fit Check: EF Pro Cycling 2025

EF Education–EasyPost is an American professional cycling team founded in 2003. For the year 2025, they dropped a campaign “Diamonds Are Made Under Pressure”, which is made for their current cyclists who thrive under pressure. “When the pressure mounts, I try not to think about what might be and just race,” said one of their pro cyclist, Ben Healy. The design of the kit revolves around that idea and has plenty of diamonds in it to symbolise that mentality.
From the bench
🗞️ In case you were injured:
Big news again, just weeks after CNN copied us for Hill Cheese Rolling, BBC Sport has now copied us for Henningsvaer Stadium. We found it first, people.
Just weeks after the viral table slam between Magnus and Gukesh in Chess, the two played each other for three games in a tournament: Gukesh won 1, Magnus won 1, and they drew 1. No table slams this time, though, unfortunately.
Nico Hulkenberg, an F1 veteran, finally achieved his first-ever podium finish after competing in 239 Grand Prix.
🎯 In overtime:
In some bizarre news, Lottie Woad, an English amateur, just won the Women’s Irish Golf Open. However, because she’s an amateur player, she was denied the prize money, which instead went to second place. What?!
Even though Bobby Bonilla hasn’t played in the MLB for more than 20 years, the New York Mets still pay him $1.2 million a year until 2035. I wouldn't mind that.
