Imagine Rowing 22 miles at 89

You probably can't even do that right now. Check out the 89-year-old who raised $50,000, the 15-year-old who's faster than an Olympian, the first Italian to win Wimbledon, and more.

Pre-match briefing

Welcome back to The Gameplan! This week is filled with fun sports news as always, but one strange one in particular caught my eye:

A French athlete, Ysaora Thibus, was given a 4 year ban for doping earlier this year. However, just recently, she’s been cleared, and the argument is that her boyfriend did the substance, and it led to accidental contamination, just because they probably kissed a lot. How unlucky.

Anyways, let’s dive into Week 35 at The Gameplan 🤿

Scout’s Overview
📡 🚨 Weekly Sports Radar: Tchoukball

Tchoukball is a fast-paced, non-contact team sport where players score points by throwing a ball at a rebound net so it bounces back without being caught by the opposing team.

Tchoukball was invented in the 1970s by Swiss biologist Dr. Hermann Brandt, who aimed to create a competitive sport that reduced injuries and emphasised teamwork and respect. He designed it as an alternative to aggressive sports, believing that physical harm in athletics was counterproductive to human progress.

🏋 Athlete of the week: Jannik Sinner

Corinne Dubreuil

Jannik Sinner is a 23-year-old Italian Tennis player. This week, he won his first Wimbledon Championship. At just 23, he already has 20 top-tier singles titles, including 4 majors: 2 Australian Opens, 1 US Open, and now 1 Wimbledon. He’s also ranked world No. 1, being the first Italian to achieve this distinction.

🏟️ Venue of the week: Tasiilaq Ice Fjord

Tasiilaq Ice Fjord is a breathtaking Arctic fjord in eastern Greenland, known for its towering icebergs and dramatic coastal cliffs. The two most popular sports here are Kayaking and Ice Hiking.

🧤 Fit Check: England Rugby World Cup 2023

This week we’re covering the home & away kit for England’s rugby team. The home kit has a clean, crisp look and feel. One of the additions here that other kits don’t usually have is the flat knit rib collar with inner stripe detailing, which enhances the look.

The Alternate jersey, styled in navy, has a sophisticated look. The graphic panels across the chest add so much style to the jersey, but still keep the overall look minimalistic. The away jersey also includes the navy flat knit rib collar and has sleeve cuffs in red.

🗞️ In case you were injured:

  • A few weeks ago, we talked about what a double bagel is: When you don’t let your opponent win even one game across any set in tennis. Imagine doing it at the Wimbledon Final. Take a bow, Iga Świątek.

  • Divine Iheme just ran a 100m so fast, he broke our favourite sprinter Gout Gout’s record, and he’s faster than the current Olympic champion was at that age. He’s just 15.

  • Curtis Campher became the first professional male cricketer in history to take 5 wickets in 5 balls, meaning he took out half the entire opposition team in just one over!

📈 Analysts Corner:

  • In North America, sports-licensed merchandise is a $28 billion market, while sports and entertainment trading cards & memorabilia is a $13 billion market!
