(As a scout). Check out the Roman jersey, a medieval sport on water, a venue in the mountains, and the 4th time MVP Shohei GOATani.

Pre-match briefing
Welcome back to The Gameplan. I know this is a sports newsletter, and we should stick to sports, but some things are just that important. So let’s get into international news:

I swear it’s not AI generated, it’s just Austria trying to turn boring power lines into giant metal animals, and it’s the coolest thing ever. With that out of the way, let’s dive into Edition 49 of The Gameplan.
Scout’s Overview
📡 🚨 Weekly Sports Radar: Water Jousting

Water jousting is a traditional sport where two competitors stand on the stern of their boats and attempt to knock each other into the water using wooden lances and shields. It’s basically medieval jousting but on boats. Each jouster stands on a raised platform (the tailloir) at the back of their boat. The goal is to stay balanced and use your lance to unseat your opponent into the water.
Water jousting dates back to ancient Egypt but became an organized sport in France around the 12th century. The sport is overseen by the Fédération Française de Joute et de Sauvetage Nautique (FFJSN), founded in 1960, which standardizes rules and hosts national championships in France.
🏋 Athlete of the week: Shohei Ohtani

I’m not sure how we haven’t had Shohei Ohtani as athlete of the week before. The Japanese baseball player for the LA Dodgers is a machine. First of, he’s a two-way player, meaning he’s great at pitching as well as hitting, breaking some records that were thought to be set in stone by Babe Ruth, another legend of the game.
This week, Ohtani won his 4th Major League MVP award, making him 2nd on the all-time list, only behind Barry Bonds.
🏟️ Venue of the week: Passo dello Stelvio

The Passo dello Stelvio, or the Stelvio Pass, is a mountain pass in northern Italy. It’s the second highest pass of the Alps, at an insane 2,757 m (9,045 ft) above sea level. So naturally, it’s home to one of the most iconic cycling routes. As if cycling uphill wasn’t hard enough, they had to do it low on oxygen in the Alps.
🧤 Fit Check: Ezeta Vis Aurelia 25-26 Home Jersey

Vis Aurelia, an amateur football club, recently dropped these jaw-dropping kits.
Inspired by Roman classicism, this jersey has fine detailing and careful layering. The 1st layer includes the kit manufacturer and club logos sticking out in metallic gold. The 2nd layer covers 75% of the jersey in a bold green pattern inspired by the architecture of the ancient Corinth city. The 3rd layer is the upper third of the jersey using the similar ancient pattern however, it’s detailed in gold, making it stand out from the other two layers.
