📡 🚨 Weekly Sports Radar: Sepak Takraw

Sepak Takraw is a fast-paced team sport that basically a mix of volleyball and football. Players hit a small ball over a net using only their feet, head, chest, and shoulders, hands and arms are not allowed. The game is played by two teams of three players. Each team is allowed up to three touches to return the ball over the net. A set is won by the first team to reach 21 points, with a two-point margin required.

Sepak Takraw has its roots in Southeast Asia, where early versions of the game were played for centuries as a cooperative kicking activity known as Sepak Raga. Today, Sepak Takraw is most popular in countries such as Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Myanmar. It is a regular feature at major regional events like the Asian Games and the Southeast Asian Games. Check out this insane demonstration of the sport

🏋 Athlete of the week: Sasha DiGiulian

Sasha DiGiulian is an American professional rock climber. She’s won numerous awards and medals in competition climbing and bouldering, and she has also climbed over 30 first female ascents, meaning that she’s the first woman ever to climb 30 different routes. Additionally, she’s done 8 significant first free ascents, meaning she was the first person ever to climb those routes.

But that’s not why we’re here. Recently, she free climbed (climbing without any non-safety gear) El Capitan, a famous rock formation. She was climbing for 23 days, and made it through a 9-day storm, and became the first woman ever to complete the Platinum Wall. 23 days climbing is just insane. Check it out.

Yes. Our venue of this week is a high school. But it makes sense, just look at the size of this complex! I can count 4 Baseball, 2 Softball, 13 Football, 2 American Football, and 6 tennis grounds. 🧤 Fit Check: Everytown My Cause My Cleats

Everytown for Gun Safety is a leading nonprofit organization working to reduce gun violence in the United States through research, education, survivor support, and advocacy. My Cause My Cleats is an NFL initiative that allows players to wear custom-designed cleats during games to spotlight charitable causes that matter to them personally.

These boots, along with other designs, are exactly the kind of impact sports establishments and athletes should be having across the world. Choosing to partner with Everytown is a powerful statement, and I for one hope to see more movements like this across the globe, because all sports truly have an immense impact.
